Saturday September 21, 2024: Twin Lakes hike starting from Arnica Lake Trailhead. Five members and one guest set off from the Arnica Lake Trailhead (Highway 93, south, near Vista Lake): the parking lot is small and we got the last three parking places at 9:00 am. The temperature rose from zero to about 12 by the afternoon. The trail had traces of ice from the rain and snow of the previous day - increasing snow with elevation of course, which added to the beauty, and we could see the Monarch and Ramparts in the distance beyond Gibbon Pass. The path was muddy and wet in part but not difficult and the scenery was great – alpine larches just starting to turn gold, maybe a good week later than usual. By the time we got back, much of the snow had melted from the trail and overhead trees. The 18 km hike covered cumulative elevation gain of 1173 m – greater than the print copy map and some sources say – including the CWH data base. Time spent approached 7 hours, with an average speed of 2.7 km/hr. A great day ! Glynn Wright. Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album?
