Write Up:
Prairie Mountain This hike was closed on May 23 and reopened a week ago ahead of schedule. It is best to park at the Elbow Falls parking lot to access the trail head. Alberta Parks refurbished the trail with $850,000 worth of funds, signed and it is now an official trail. The trail is wider and grated well. There are less obstacles to navigate on the trail. There are some rock stairs. There are some nice rocks to sit on for a break with great views on the trail. And at the top they’ve arranged rocks in seating areas. One observation is after you are fully out of the trees the upgraded trail cuts close to the ridge edge in some areas. In the winter, possible cornices, and high winds, this might be a dangerous area. I was pleased with the trail upgrades. We had a glorious day on the mountain. We started out at 9:30 am and there were few people on the trail going up. However, on the return route-there were many more hikers. We did meet out President -Pat Cooper on the trail. The temperature was pleasant, sun, clouds, and a bit of a wind on top. The views were outstanding on top. Thanks to Patricia, Heather and Lorna for coming out.
