Write Up:
7 all squeezed into our van for the drive up to Logan Pass. The road was under construction, but after a few delays we made it up into the parking lot. Behind the visitor center we found the paved start to the Hidden Lake trail surrounded by lush flowers and lofty peaks. Soon we were climbing through wildflower meadows on the wide wooden steps of a boardwalk. A hoary marmot posed for pictures on a rock abutting the boardwalk. Just then some one said "Look!" and a white mountain goat came bounding up the boardwalk. We stepped aside and he passed us within inches clip clopping on the wooden steps. Near the Hidden Lake overlook there were 3 more goats, 2 wearing radio collars and spray paint. Those who made it down the 400 meter switch backs enjoyed lunch on the lakeshore and some even dunked themselves in the frigid water. The air was THAT hot. We climbed back up passing fields of beargrass. Navigating through throngs of tourists including a small boy having a melt down, we reached the boardwalk once more. In the last mile we came across a mother goat watching her 2 kids belly down on a snowbank trying to beat the heat. Abundant flowers, scenery and wildlife within steps of the parking lot explained the popularity of the area.
