Write Up:
It was a good day to visit Lake Minnewanka. We were welcomed by blue sky and pleasant temperature in the morning. Then clouds rolled in to alleviate the heat of the midday sun, only to clear up again later in the day. We had lunch at the large beach near the campground. Great place to relax. The trail was in good condition. All the deadfall was cleared and all junctions were well marked with signs. No bugs and no bears either but we came upon a garter snake slithering across the trail. We met some hikers, bikers, and backpackers but the trail did not feel crowded and there was plenty of parking. The Slow and Steady Hikers had two groups of 10 and 6 strong on the trail as compared to our puny 4 but if you are thinking of hiking with them be aware that you are not allowed to wear cotton underwear. They were standing at the side of the narrow trail, facing us as we passed, and shouting at us at the top of their lungs. I said, “No COVID, please,” and so they shut up except for the fat lady who thought it was funny and was laughing out loud into my face. The young lady at the outdoor park’s information stand was quite helpful when Dean inquired about parking closer to the lake so that he could bring in his partially disabled mother to enjoy the beauty and charm of the area.
