After crossing the bridge over the Elbow River, we followed the Wildhorse Trail for about 1 km to the junction with the Forgetmenot Trail. No water in the first crossing of the Elbow River so we all had dry feet for the steep ascent up to the northwest ridge of Forgetmenot. We made a short detour, about 900 m, to the north end of the ridge (2240 m) then retraced our steps, turned south and continued along the ridge for almost 5 km to Forgetmenot Peak (2335 m). We ate lunch at the summit as we enjoyed the 360 degree panorama among remnants of the old fire lookout. There is no trail descending to Threepoint Creek and we followed Matthew Clay’s track through the trees. With gps and the assistance of “Trailblazer Dan” and “Log Crusher” Dean, we were able to bushwhack down a very steep slope to connect with the Threepoint Mountain Trail. Once we arrived at the junction, we were treated to an easy, well defined path that led back to the Elbow River and the Big Elbow Trail. The river crossing was mid-calf but everyone felt refreshed by the cold water on such a warm day. Back to the parking lot just before 6 pm. Long day but well worth the effort.
