Write Up:
What a wonderful day. The sun was out in all it's glory, the temperature "Perfekt" for hiking, and as forecast a couple of days earlier there was essentially no wind. At the top the view was awe inspiring.

We had organized into three sub-groups. The fast hikers, the moderate pace hikers, and as we later decided to call it, the comfort group.

As leader I must admit I fairly soon lost sight of the first two sub-groups, but I would say that they were well managed thanks to the efforts of their leaders (and group-tail-enders). In my early mail this following morning I have already received a number of commendations for the hike, and I want to say a big share goes to the leaders of the sub-groups, and any others that helped to make this a wonderful day. When I returned to the car, there was a much appreciated note listing the hikers that had already returned. Nice touch.

In my sub “the comfort group”, Mark V was star performer. A short way up the trail we met an independent hiker with a turned ankle and in considerable pain. Mark made the decision to accompany her back down to a safe place. A special commendation for this effort. He re-joined our group a short while later.

I want to extend this commendation to Mark for how he kept watch all the way up on my hiking effort, which was considerably less than I had anticipated. In fact it was so poor that Mark would not even allow me to be last. Mark is a good friend to have on any trail.

I suspect there may have been a few that took the gondola down. Our small comfort group took a dip in the Upper Hot Springs pool to finish off a perfect day.

We had one little incidence where I had to deny a couple of Newbies to the hike, because they had no icers, one of the things that’s a must for the hike this time of the year. They took the advice to heart, went back to Banff, rented icers, and re-joined our hike about one quarter the way up. Good effort. It does point out that it’s good for all to read and pay attention to the hike instructions.

A big thank you to all who made this a wonderful experience.
