Write Up:
Began snowing as we started out but shortly after we put on our rain jackets and pack covers it stopped and the sun came out. Wind was quite strong but not a problem as long as we were hiking through the trees. Somehow we missed the first junction (no sign of trail or flagging). We carried on for a bit and crossed Gorge Creek again. This didn’t seem right so we backtracked and passed what we thought was the junction to Little Ware. A bit further on we consulted the GPS and managed to find a faint trail. It became a well defined trail and we followed it the summit. Once we came out of the trees we realized we were quite a bit further west. It is probably an easier route but does involve a scramble up a chimney (maybe 5 or 6 metres). The wind was really strong at this point and we were having difficulty staying upright We headed down the east side into the trees to find some shelter from the wind and decided not to continue to Surveyor’s RIdge. Only one piece of tape and then nothing. We followed the gps along some game trails and with a bit of bushwacking arrived at the foot of Little Ware. The group decided to ascend which turned out to be a good idea, not as much wind and spectacular views of the storm to the west. We could not find a trail so it was back to using the gps and bushwacking down to the Gorge Creek Trail. We arrived at the parking lot about 4:30. Great group; positive attitude, flexible and adventurous.
