After snagging parking spots in the busy lot at Moraine Lake, we began our hike under a clear blue sky. We encountered few other hikers on the trail although the smoke in the valley was considerably lighter than what we had been experiencing in the city. Overall visibility was much better than expected. Our journey up featured a good-sized rock/ice fall across the valley and sightings of well fed pika and marmot. After losing the trail for a bit in the rocky last climb, we found it again and proceeded smoothly to the pass. Lunch was brief due to dark clouds moving in but only a few light showers cooled us during the descent. It was a good hike with great companions to share the experience.
